Cairo - MENA
President Abdel Fattah al Sisi reviewed Tuesday the activities and projects of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) during a meeting with director Ismail Serageldin.
Serageldin noted that the next meeting of BA board of trustees on April 18 will group five former state presidents - including Serbia, Colombia, Albania, Romania, and Latvia - along with former prime minister of The Netherlands and prominent international figures, the presidential spokesman Alaa Yusef said.
Sisi got updated on projects carried out by the BA in cooperation with ministries, and national institutions, including the project dubbed "Sefarat el Maarefa" (the knowledge embassies), Yusef said.
The knowledge embassies were meant to provide Egyptian universities in governorates with the services offered by the library.
The Bibliotheca Alexandrina also pays great attention in cooperating with Al-Azhar to document the history of this inveterate Sunni institution and publish its important works on moderate Islam, the spokesman added.
The president praised the positive efforts of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in spreading the culture and knowledge in various fields.
Sisi also urged Serageldin to boost the library's role in remote governorates and encourage youths to discover their potentials.
