Permanent Delegate of Egypt to UNESCO and Chairman of the organization’s executive board Mohamed Sameh Amr opened on Monday the 195th session of the Executive Board.
In his opening remarks, Amr said education is the base for peace, noting that two child education activist Pakistani Malala Yousufzai, and India Kailash Satyarthi won this year's Nobel Prize for fighting for children's right in education.
The chairman asserted that development could not be achieved without well-educated generations able to face the challenges of the future.
"Education is a basic element for social and economic development, and the way to achieve full understanding of other cultures," he said.
