His Majesty King Abdullah II on Thursday said Jordan will exert all possible efforts and employ all tools to bring justice to the death of two Jordanians, who were shot by an Israeli embassy employee on Sunday.
His Majesty told a National Policy Council meeting he chaired upon his return from the U.S. that the Israeli prime minister is required to abide by his obligations and take all legal measures that guarantee the killer stands trial to achieve justice instead of handling this crime for political showoff to achieve personal political gains.
“Such rejected and provocative act infuriates us all, destabilizes security and fuels extremism in the region and is totally unacceptable”, King Abdullah said during the meeting attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein Bin Abdullah II, His Majesty’s Advisor and chairman of the council, His Royal Highness Prince Faisal Bin Al Hussein the King.
His Majesty extended to the families of the two victims and said: “We will not give up our rights and our citizens’ rights. The manner through which Israel dealt with the embassy incident and the killing of the judge Zeiter will have a direct impact on our relations with Israel.”
King Abdullah emphasized that Jordan respects international law, diplomatic norms and treaties and such commitment and respect is the guarantor of the Kingdom’s and its citizens’ rights.
Speaking on the Al-Aqsa Mosque/ Al-Haram al-Sharif crisis, His Majesty said Jordan and the Palestinian brethren maintained unified positions to contain the crisis and ensure the reopening of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. He stressed that the historical and legal status quo in Al-Harm Al Sharif must be respected to prevent the reoccurrence of such a crisis.
The meeting was also attended by the prime minister, the Royal Court chief, the director of the Intelligence Department, the director of the King’s Office, the King’s advisors, the interior minister, the state minister for media affairs and communications and director of the public security and gendarmerie departments.
