President Abdel Fattah El Sisi voiced Egypt's keenness on promoting ties with Spain in all domains, particularly in the military one.
This came at a meeting with Spanish Defense Minister Pedro de Morenes, with Egyptian Defense Minister Sedqi Sobhi and the Spanish ambassador in Cairo attending.
During the meeting, the president stressed the necessity of stepping up international efforts to reach political settlements to the crises in the region.
Sisi also stressed the importance of boosting coordination in the field of fighting terrorism and extremism and adopting a comprehensive strategy to involve the cultural, social, development, security and military dimensions.
In statements on Tuesday, Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Alaa Youssef said that President Sisi, during the meeting, underlined the depth of relations between Cairo and Madrid, particularly following his visit to Spain in 2015, which laid a good foundation for strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, the Spanish minister underscored Egypt's pioneering role and its political and military leverage in the Middle East region, saying his country is looking forward to boost cooperation with Egypt in all fields.
He also expressed his country's solidarity with Egypt in its war on terrorism, adding Spain is well aware of the danger constituted by terrorism and the need to uproot it.
Morenes also stressed the importance of international cooperation in combating terrorism to restore security and stability in the region.
Talks also took up a host of regional and international issues of mutual interest.
