The Italian interior minister’s visit to Egypt is expected to help boost cooperation between the two sides in combating terrorism and illegal migration.

Minniti is also here to discuss the Libyan file and means by which to reach a peaceful solution to the Libyan crisis.

Italy is considered an important trade partner of Egypt. The volume of trade exchange between the two countries reached 307 billion euros in 2016, while Italian investments in Egypt amounted to some five billion euros.

The Italian investments in Egypt recently increased after discovering the Zohr oilfield. They are expected to further surge in the coming period, particularly in the fields of energy, electricity and infrastructure.
