Amman - Egypt Today
Government Coordinator for Human Rights, Basel Tarawneh, Wednesday, met with a number of heads of global organizations operating in Jordan for talks on ways to further deepening cooperation in humanitarian fields.
He met head of “Doctors without Borders” mission in Amman, Marc Schakal, who presented a briefing on activities carried out by the organization in 2017. Schakal also lauded Jordan’s cooperation with all humanitarian bodies to facilitate their tasks in the region.
During his meeting with Human Rights Watch’s representative in Amman, Adam Coogle, Tarawneh said that abolishing the controversial Article 308 of Penal code, which allowed sexual assault perpetrator to escape punishment by marrying the victim, came as result of the partnership between authorities and the civil society organizations in the Kingdom, as well as the deep understanding of the authorities for boosting and developing human rights legislations in the country.
The meetings were held in the framework of sustaining communication between the government and civil society and international institutions.
