Just after losing 30 pounds to play a sociopathic crime journalist in Nightcrawler, Jake Gyllenhaal has undergone another dramatic body transformation for his next role in Southpaw.
On Monday, the film's producers released a still of the 33-year-old actor looking unrecognizably buff.
Gyllenhaal reportedly gained 15 pounds for the role of Billy "The Great" Hope, a left-handed boxing champion who is struck by tragedy.
Southpaw director Antoine Fuqua recently told Deadline that Gyllenhaal's new role will "change how people see him."
"I told him he needed to do more masculine films because I could see he had this power in him, and good size, and great expressive eyes," Fuqua said.
Fuqua said Gyllenhaal went to the gym two times each day, everyday.
"We literally turned him into a beast," he said.
Southpaw, which also stars Rachel McAdams and Forest Whitaker, hits theaters in 2015.
