Cairo Airport security authorities foiled an attempt to smuggle 17,000 dollars, the airport's security chief Fahmi Megahed said Wednesday.

The seized sum was in the possession of a passenger who was on board a Gulf flight heading for Abu Dhabi, he added. 

A report was filed and the passenger was referred to the prosecution for interrogation.
