Cairo airport authorities Wednesday aborted an attempt by a passenger to smuggle 44,000 pounds to France, violating the law that bans the transfer of money on flights.

A source at the airport said legal measures were taken against the passenger who was due to board an Air France plane bound for Paris.

The airport authorities suspected the passenger and searched him to find him possessing the money.
