A center to document the international safeguarding campaign to save the Abu Simbel temples from being flooded by the waters of Lake Nasser has been opened in Aswan.

Hossam Aboud, the director general of Abu Simbel monuments, said Sunday that the pilot opening comes after the completion of renovation work, which cost some two million pounds.

The center includes 21 graphic paintings and 18 showcases, Aboud said, adding that there is also a photo lab.

It also houses a group of important historic documents about the international campaign, he noted.
