The retail sales at Singapore's Changi Airport grew by 9 percent year on year to a record high of more than 2 billion Singapore dollars (1.6 billion U.S. dollars) last year, the airport said Sunday. Visitors from China accounted for about a quarter of the total sales. Their spending at the airport grew by 25 percent year on year. The most popular products sold at the airport, which sets benchmarks in many respects of airport experience, are liquor, tobacco, perfumes and cosmetics. Purchases by Singaporeans accounted for a fifth of the total sales, with a year-on-year growth of 11 percent. The airport announced Sunday that the winner of the "Be a Changi Millionaire" promotion for 2013 was Irvung Tio, a Jakarta- based businessman who works in the waste management industry.
