EgyptAir denied on Wednesday recent media reports that a Nigerian passenger was mistreated at its office in Lagos.
In a statement, the national carrier said that an unintentional mistake has occurred when a Nigerian reservation officer in Lagos issued a ticket to an airport whose abbreviation is KIV which resembles the Ukrainian capital Kiev, the intended destination by the Nigerian passenger.
KIV is an airport in Moldova.
The foreign air company which the passenger used to travel made the same mistake and confused the name of the airport with the Ukrainian capital, the statement said.
The result was that the route was changed to another country, and the passenger was deported when he arrived at Moldova, it added.
EgyptAir stressed that the passenger was not assaulted or had his passport torn up as some media reports claimed, and that the Lagos office apologized to him.
