The international airport in Burundi has reopened, the BBC reported on Thursday.

A senior official at the airport says soldiers loyal to President Pierre Nkurunziza are back in control of key parts of the city, including the airport.

A Somalian cargo plane has took off shortly from the airport which would appear to confirm reports it is in loyalist hands, the source added.
