Khiri Travel has introduced a fleet of designer tuk tuks to transport its guests in Laos and Cambodia. The new three-wheelers feature will be piloted by a Khiri driver and tour guide up front, offering a new way of exploring the local sights. Passengers will also be offered cold water and hand towels. The tuk tuks are the brainchild of Ruben Derksen, business manager at Khiri Travel Laos. “I was frustrated with how uncomfortable the tuk tuks in Luang Prabang were, so I had one built that guests would really enjoy using,” Derksen said. “Riding a well-appointed tuk tuk through exotic surroundings is one of the simple pleasures of a holiday in the Mekong area. It’s not just about getting from ‘A’ to ‘B’, it’s about enjoying your holiday in vintage style.” The tuk tuks are being used for city tours and airport transfers in Luang Prabang, and for city tours to Angkor Wat and around Siem Reap town. Travel companies can brand each tuk tuk with traditional wooden signage, and in Luang Prabang the tuk tuk has an extendable luggage rack for airport transfers. “We can serve champagne and luxury snacks on board. We can travel the small lanes in town in and around temples,” said Derksen. “Clients can quickly get off and on the tuk tuks to snap pictures or take part in any event along the way.” Source: Travel Daily
