Light aircraft will fly over Tunisian airspace from February 26, 2017 at an event organised by the Tunisian Aeronautics Association (ATA) to celebrate the 105th anniversary of the landing of the first light plane in Tunisia.

Eight professional pilots, including two Tunisians (Ali Barouni and Khaled Ben Saleh), will participate in this event which will continue until March 2, 2017.

The Tunisian tour begins on February 26, 2017 in the city of Tozeur, which will host an air show of light airplanes, then Ong Ej Jemal (Star Wars film location)

President of the ATA Habib Soussia said this event takes place to celebrate the 105th anniversary of the landing of the first light aircraft (February 1913), after its take-off from the city of Biskra (Algeria).

Speaking at a press conference held in Tunis on Tuesday, the official said the event aims to revive the experience of light aircraft in Tunisia, recalling that on December 18, 1912, French pilot Roland Garros made the first direct flight from Tunis Ksar Said to Rome.

The programme will include the organisation of air shows in Tozeur (February 26 and 27, 2017), Kairouan (February 28), Utique Bizerte (March 1, 2017) and Seminja Zaghouan (March 2, 2017).
