Morocco is the top-rated tourist destination in Africa, according to French-speaking Belgian Radio and Television (RTBF).
Reported that in late November, Morocco recorded $5.8 billion in tourism dollars, making the Kingdom the country most visited in Africa.
RTBF also recalled that Marrakech, one of the most popular cities in the country, had been designated by CNN as one of the cities offering the best “street food” in the world in 2016.
World renowned National Geographic has ranked Morocco 7th on their list of must-see countries for 2017, while the popular website, Tripadvisor, places the country in 3rd place.
“Before, Morocco received on average 800 to 1,000 tourists per month from China, today they are more than 6,000 a month,” said Abderrafie Zouitene, Director General of the Moroccan National Tourism Office in an interview with newspaper Inspirations Eco.
Revenue generated by the tourism sector is the highest on the continent this year, mainly due to the attractiveness of the Kingdom, made possible by its much-admired political stability.
Some credit for Morocco’s dramatic jump in the tourism rankings should be given to its position as the number one African nation in new hotel construction, with 52 projects currently being built.
