The number of visitors to the ancient city of Petra dropped by 15 per cent in November compared with the figures for the same month last year, according to the Petra Archaeological Park (PAP).
A total of 47,047 people, including 40,070 foreigners, 5517 Jordanians and 1460 state visitors and schools and university students visited Petra in November this year compared to 55,363 tourists during the same period of 2013.
Revenues from entry tickets dropped by 9 percent, amounting to JD 859,113 compared with JD 943,633 during the same month in the year before, PAP added.
The decline was attributed to the political unrest witnessed in several neighboring countries.
