The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has honoured 50 taxi drivers of the Dubai Taxi Corporation, and 20 bus drivers of the Public Transport Agency. The move is an implementation of the initiative of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to dedicate the Accession Day celebrations this year to thank and honour the general labour and staff, such as farmers, public transportation drivers, domestic workers and others in different categories. Ahmed Mohammed Al Hammadi, Acting CEO of Public Transport Agency, honoured 20 bus drivers representing all bus depots in Dubai, who have been selected according to a certain set of criteria, such as maintaining an accident-free record, compliance with driving and traffic rules, avoiding quality and traffic offences for one year (2012), and showing honesty by handing over precious or valuable belongings inadvertently left by passengers. Another criteria also included that the honoree driver should not have been honoured in 2012. Decorated drivers will be given a financial reward along with certificates of appreciation. The ceremony was attended by a number of directors, managers, station managers and officials of the Agency at Ghubaiba Bus Station in Dubai. Yousef Al Ali, CEO of the Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC), also honoured 50 drivers among the best DTC cab drivers, based upon their distinguished performance. — Source:KhaleejTimes
