Special flight brings back stranded Pakistanis


A special flight of Air Libya, chartered by the Government of Pakistan, arrived in eastern Lahore city from Tripoli evacuating 259 Pakistanis from Libya, said the Pakistani Foreign Office on Wednesday.
A press release by the office said "This brings the total number of special flights operated so far to 10 and the total number of Pakistanis airlifted from Libya to 2,769." The number of Pakistanis that have been evacuated through land routes from bordering countries has reached 2,700. This brings the overall figure of stranded Pakistanis who have been successfully evacuated from Libya to 5,469.
Over 500 destitute Pakistanis are still being supported in the relief camps, set up by Pakistan Embassy, waiting to be repatriated in the coming days. Additional special flights will be planned accordingly, the release added.
Meanwhile, 54 Pakistani prisoners were freed from Tawesha Jail located in the epicenter of ongoing fighting in the western zone of Libya. This release of last batch of imprisoned Pakistani brings the total figure of compatriots got freed from various Libyan jails, since March 2014, to 280.
"This not only signifies that almost all the Pakistani prisoners in Libya are now free, but also underlines the dedication to duty shown by the Pakistan Embassy in Tripoli in accomplishing a daunting task in a record time," said Foreign Office.
