Special train brings some 250 migrants

A chartered train with some 250 migrants on board has arrived in Munich after traveling non-stop from Vienna, ABC News reported.

Federal police spokesman Simon Hegewald said that a total of about 600 people who were trying to reach western Europe from Hungary have arrived in Munich since midnight.

The migrants are being taken to a reception center for immigration and asylum registration and may be distributed to shelters elsewhere in the country over the coming days.

At least 12 Syrians trying to reach Greece recently drowned off Turkey after their boat sank.

An image of one of the victims - a young boy lying face down on the beach - has sparked an international outcry over the human cost of the crisis.

Thousands of migrants have died this year trying to reach Europe by sea.
