Third line underground traffic

An Egyptian Metro Authority official stressed on Monday that traffic on the third underground line, which links El-Ataba square to the upscale district of Heliopolis, is still suspended.

Ahmed Abdel Hadi, the authority's spokesman, said efforts are underway to dismantle the two underground carriages that rammed into the buffer stops at Abbassiya station on Sunday.

Workers tried hard all through Sunday to remove the two derailed carriages off the tracks but in vain, he added.

The accident left the driver wounded.

At least 3.5 million people use the metro on a daily basis in Cairo.
