The Transport Ministry Monday denied news circulating on a number of websites pertaining to an increase in prices of Metro tickets to three pounds instead of one.

Spokesman for the Ministry Ahmed Ibrahim dismissed claims that the ministry offered proposals for such increase.

Meanwhile, Transport Minister Saad el Gyoushi said that the increase will not affect limited-income segments, students and people with disabilities.

He added that the increase aims to compensate Metro infrastructure damage, which is worth 250 million EGP annually
