- Tourism in the Austrian capital reached another record in January 2012 compared to the same period last year. Austrian press agency showed that the number of overnight stays in January increased significantly by 11.5 percent to 675,000 according to figures published by Statistics Austria. Tourism in Vienna had already reached an all-time record of 11,4 million overnight stays between January and December 2011. In January, there were two-figure increases in overnight stays by tourists from Brazil (plus 74 percent), China (69), Turkey (64), United Arab Emirates (60), Saudi Arabia (43), Japan (40) and Russia (plus 37 percent). The number of tourists from Italy decreased by 7 percent. The average room occupancy rate was 49 percent (January 2010: 47 percent).
