Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has commended the firm position of the U.A.E. towards the Palestinian people and the Palestine cause.
He added that the U.A.E.'s support to the just Palestinian cause has remained consistent.
President Abbas made the remark yesterday afternoon here, while receiving Ahmed Juma Al Za'abi, U.A.E. Deputy Minister for Presidential Affairs, Deputy Chairman of the Khalifa Foundation, and the delegation accompanying him.
He noted that the U.A.E. tops the countries that back the Palestinian issue, citing the unwavering support of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan to the Palestinian people, a legacy sustained by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
President Abbas said the opening of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Al Azaria, near Jerusalem, reiterates the U.A.E.'s support to Jerusalem and its Arab character. "It is a model for Emirati giving to the Palestinian people." He noted that each Palestinian senses the U.A.E.'s help through the development programme in terms of schools, Mosques and hospitals in the Palestinian territories, adding that the U.A.E. charitable bodies have an impact in Palestine.
On his part, Al Zaabi conveyed the regards of the U.A.E. President to the Palestinian President, adding that the opening of the Sheikh Khalifa Mosque in Jerusalem today "cherishes U.A.E.'s support to Palestinians in all fields." The aim behind building the Mosque, he continued, is not only to pray but to assert the need of construction in Palestinian territory.
