H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, has met with 122 Emirati students who are pursuing studies at a number of Canadian universities.
During the meeting, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah conveyed to the students greetings from President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of U.A.E. Armed Forces.
He re-affirmed U.A.E.'s interest in the student and in following their education progress. He also affirmed the wise leadership's interest in providing all facilities for the students in order to help them make more efforts on their way to achieve their goal of attaining high degrees in the service of their home country.
"Emiratis students who are seconded overseas are ambassadors of their home country. They should reflect the honourable image of their country which looks after its citizens while they are overseas making their academic efforts armed with education and knowledge so that they will contribute to the progress of the nation in all fields," H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed said.
During the meeting, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah acquainted himself with the specializations and studies pursued by the students, as well as with their living conditions in Canada.
He urged them to be successful in their studies in order to contribute to the progress of the building of their nation.
H.H. Sheikh Abdullah expressed his delight at meeting the students during the Holy Month of Ramdan, and at their determination which is a source of happiness for their families and their country.
Expressing pride in the students' diligence despite being away from their home country, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah urged them to make further effort and hard work in their post-graduate studies.
On their part, the students expressed pride in and delight at meeting H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed. They vowed to live up to the expectations of their country and to attain the highest academic degrees in order to contribute to its ongoing progress.
The Emirati students also expressed appreciation for the services and support provided for them by their country so as to facilitate their studies.
At the conclusion of the meeting, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed and the students attended an iftar banquet hosted to mark the occasion.
122 male and female Emirati students are currently pursuing their studies in Canadian provinces including Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Saskatchewan.
The students were seconded by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Abu Dhabi Education Council, United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, Dubai Health Authority, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, Presidential Affairs Office.
The students aim to earn bachelor's, master's and PhD degrees, as well as Canadian fellowships and board specialty and sub-specialty certifications.
They are pursuing studies in engineering, political science, economics, business administration, mathematics, international studies, finance, accountancy, medicine.
Previously, the Cultural Attache Office in Canada signed agreements with Canadian medical colleges on training Emirati physicians for Canadian fellowships and board specialty and sub-specialty certifications.
