American University of Ras Al-Khaimah
The American University of Ras Al-Khaimah has launched it second training course for school librarians in association with the RAK Education Zone. Nineteen librarians from different levels took part in the course, which will continue until
the end of March, with lectures delivered by Mohammed Darwish, Director of the library.
The training session was inaugurated by Professor Dr. Hassan Hamdan Alalkim, President of the University, in the presence of Prof. Dr. John Ryder, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. In his opening address, Dr. Alalkim welcomed the participants and stressed the importance of continuing the cooperation between the University and the education sector in the emirate, for mutual benefit.
The course is designed to enhance the participants' skills and boost their performance in the field of libraries and documentation, with the goal of converting libraries into valuable learning resources. The course seeks to update participants on the latest developments in modern systems used in most libraries throughout the world.
The programme includes training in several aspects of library science. The programme covers technical procedures for cataloguing and classification of books and periodicals and various sources of information (traditional and computerized) to make it easier for students to seek information or do research. The programme also contains practical training in the field of library services and information services provided by school libraries.
At the end of the opening session, Prof. Dr. Hassan Alalkim hailed the University's fruitful cooperation with the RAK Education Zone, and underlined the importance of the partnership that will bring many benefits to the community in Ras Al-Khaimah.
