Arabian Gulf University (AGU) The Arabian Gulf University (AGU)'s Chancellor Dr. Khalid bin Abdul-Rahman Al-Ohali said that medical and clinical research is conducted according to the needs of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)-member countries. Dr. Al-Ohali highlighted the importance of attracting rare scientific specialisations as part of the AGU's strategic objectives since its inception about three decades ago.
The AGU's Chancellor came during the opening of a workshop on "Clinical Research Ethics" attended by Ministry of Health's Undersecretary Dr. Ayesha Mubarak Bu Unq and the U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Thomas Krajeski.
Dr. Al-Ohali said the advanced workshop has been organised to explore clinical research ethics and protecting the rights of volunteer patients in conducting research, citing the effective participation of the UAE, KSA, Kuwait and Bahrain in line with the University's objectives aimed to deepen joint cooperation in order to move health services from the stage of service provision to development of services aspiring to produce the requirements of health services in the GCC countries.
The seminar translates the University's vision aimed to establish regional and international partnerships with medical educational institutions, Dr. Al-Ohali said.
The workshop has been organized as a step forward in laying down controls and mechanisms for protection of the rights of volunteer patients in conducting clinical research, to protect their interests and privacy during the course of medical treatment. The workshop also acts as a platform aimed to boost medical education, develop clinical research services aimed to treat chronic endemic diseases in the GCC countries, he concluded.
