A programme to provide medical care to the Syrian refugees in Greece has been launched under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent Authority, ERC.
The programme, aimed at offering preventive medical care against weather-related diseases to refugees ahead of the winter season, is being implemented by the ERC.
The first batch of Emirati doctors arrived recently in Athens as part of the programme, which will see them offering curative, preventive and diagnosis services to the Syrian refugees in the camps, distributed in different Greek cities.
The team consists of specialists in emergency and internal medicine, gynaecology, paediatrics, dermatology, ophthalmology and other medical specialisations.
ERC Secretary General Dr. Mohammed Atiq al Falahi, described the initiative as a "unique step to mitigate risks facing the refugees and to support the efforts made by Greece to provide better living conditions to thousands of refugees who defied difficult conditions to reach there."
