The UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has hosted a workshop, in its Dubai headquarters, for students of the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), Dubai. The purpose of the event is to generate awareness of safe
online practice, present a social media and brief students to focus on terms and conditions associated with the nation's most popular social networks.
Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General, "The TRA is acutely aware of the rapid growth of social media in the U.A.E., and in response, we have adopted a very clear strategy to generate public awareness of the security implications involved. Understanding the legal, cultural and social sensitivities involved when using these platforms are a must. This workshops highlighted how we were delighted about the engagement of all the students," said Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General.
He added that the workshop also represents fantastic opportunity to students to appreciate the value of professional opportunities available to them in the field of ICT and the reasons to pursue them. "Encouraging students to enter the ICT sector as this is one of the key contributors to the national economy," Al Ghanim said.
The core focus on the workshop was the collective responsibility of operators, users, parents, and government bodies to promote the adoption of safe online practices.
The workshop also highlighted the TRA's ongoing efforts to encourage creativity within the ICT and explained its support for the upcoming WSIS Projects Prizes mobile application contents.
The workshop also featured a number of presentations on related topics including internet domain names, a briefing on The Computer Emergency Response Team aeCERT (aeCERT) team, the .aeDA lab and The UAE mGovernment Innovation Centre.
