Earth Hour: It\'s an hour, once a year, when you turn off all lights
The Environment Society of Oman (ESO) is preparing to mark “Earth Hour’” from 8.30pm to 9.30pm on March 31, an annual event that aims to create awareness about global warming and need for
smarter electricity and water conservation, with a pledge to save 50,000 kilowatts of power.
This is the second consecutive year that the sultanate is joining the world community in observing the occasion. In 2011, an ESO-led campaign resulted in the saving of around 20,000kw of electricity .
“For 2012 the Environment Society has set the country the challenge of saving over 50,000 kilowatts of power and educate people in Oman about ways they can be smarter in the long term to save electricity and water every day through using simple and easy to achieve techniques,” the society said.
