Ramallah - Nihad Al Taweel
Efforts to eradicate the locusts have proved futile
The Palestine Climate website has said that swarms of adult locusts have passed over borders into Palestine after gathering in Sinai, Egypt.
It is expected that the locusts will severely
damage Palestinian agriculture and the crops belonging to farmers. Many Palestinians rely on agriculture as their main source of income.
In only a short time the locusts have multiplied greatly in their numbers, as they were largely ignored at the border regions.
This situation may get worse, especially in the places where they aren’t faced.
The website added that many of the locusts have reached the desert close to residential areas near Bair Al-Sabea.
Farmers are trying to fight them, but their efforts have so far appeared to be futile.
The Palestinian ministry of agriculture in Ramallah has raised the maximum standby to two after monitoring the locusts coming from north Sinai.
