Cairo Misdemeanor Court

A judge at a Cairo misdemeanors' court decided on Tuesday to remand in custody Alexandria’s Deputy Governor Soad El Kholy and four other defendants for 15 days pending investigation into several corruption charges including bribery.

Earlier in the day, Egypt’s Prosecutor General Counselor Nabil Sadeq has ordered the detention of El Kholy and the four defendants pending probe into the case.

The Administrative Control Authority (ACA) on Sunday arrested El Kholy over charges of accepting a bribe, squandering public funds and profiteering.

She is accused of accepting bribes in return for protecting businessmen from having their illegally-constructed properties demolished and paying related fines.
