Head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) office in Egypt Amr Taha

The United Nations said that Egypt received 3-4 million refugees who contribute to Egypt’s economy by USD 800 million, Head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) office in Egypt Amr Taha said on Monday. 

This came during the screening of a film about Syria at the 2nd immigration international film festival in which it was followed by a discussion about immigration.

Egypt is hosting about 200,000 refugees who are officially registered, he added.

He pointed out that immigration is playing a crucial role in development of Egypt and developing countries. He said that refugees had contributed by USD 432 billion in the economies of the developing countries in 2015 while the international aid contributed only by USD 130 billion
