Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn arrived here on Tuesday on a three-day official visit.
Desalegn was received at the airport by Sudanese President Omar Bashir and a number of Sudanese ministers and officials, in addition to members of the Ethiopian Embassy in Khartoum.
In a press statement, Sudanese Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour said the aim behind the Ethiopian premier’s visit is to discuss ways of fostering bilateral ties and follow up regional developments, especially in the Horn of Africa.
Also, it comes at a time when the East African region passes through several challenges that require the two countries’ leadership to boost coordination and agree on joint strategies to maintain the security of the region and the African continent, Ghandour added.
During his stay, Desalegn will inspect some development projects and hold meetings with a number of Sudanese officials, as well as deliver a lecture on the importance of the Horn of Africa to Sudan and Ethiopia, Ghandour noted.
The Ethiopian prime minister is accompanied by Communications Minister Negeri Lencho, Minister of Water, Irrigation and Electricity Seleshi Bekele, Special Adviser to the Prime Minister, Ambassador Berhane Gebrechristos and State Minister of Foreign Affairs Hirut Zemene.
