The Foreign Ministry on Friday hailed Moushira Khattab who failed to pass the fourth round of a vote to elect UNESCO's new Director-General.
In a statement, the ministry thanked Khattab who "underwent a fierce election battle with rare courage and a spirit of a warrior in face difficult obstacles during the various rounds of voting that took place over the past week".
As Egypt's candidate, Khattab showed high abilities and skills, reflecting her accumulated political and diplomatic experience, to be the best representative of Egypt with its influence and long history, added the statement.
The honorable performance of the Egyptian candidate during the electoral process until the penultimate round of voting was a milestone in the history of the UNESCO elections and a source of inspiration for future generations looking to represent Egypt, the ministry said.
The ministry wished Khattab the best in her future career, stressing that she would always remain a symbol of the national diplomat who devoted his career to serve the country.
