Minister Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa

His Royal Highness Prime Minister Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa received a cable of gratitude from Bahrain Society for Sickle Cell Anaemia Patient Care chairman Zakaria Ebrahim Al Kadhem marking World Sickle Cell Awareness Day on June 19.
In his cable, Al Kadhem paid rich tribute to HRH the Premier for his remarkable leadership and outstanding efforts and directives that have resulted in numerous health achievements and ameliorations for sickle patients and their families
“We wish to convey to Your His Highness the highest levels of gratitude and the best wishes and appreciation in my name and in the name of all patients and their families for the wonderful impact you have left on our lives and our families,” Al Kadhem said in the cable.
Some of the achievements included the reduction of mortality rate to 40% while the average age of patients increased to 55 years as well as providing large quantities of blood that have contributed to saving the lives of many patients and improving the quality of their lives through blood donation campaigns.
World Sickle Cell Awareness Day has been held annually since 2008 in order to help increase public knowledge and raise awareness of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) and the struggles sufferers and their families go through.
The date was chosen to commemorate the day on which a resolution was officially adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations, recognising SCD as a public health concern.
