Nasser Bourita, Minister Delegate for Foreign Affairs

The Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition To Counter ISIS, held Wednesday in Washington, was an opportunity to highlight the multidimensional approach of Morocco, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Nasser Bourita, said.

“The meeting was an opportunity to highlight the vision of HM the King to fight the terrorist threat. It is a multidimensional approach that includes preventive and repressive aspects”, Bourita told the press following the meeting.

Bourita said that Morocco, under the leadership of the Sovereign, has for years developed a vision based on the different dimensions of countertterosim, while taking into consideration the preventive side, notably promoting socio-economic development, strengthening the rule of law, and the repressive aspect that provides for upgrading the legal framework, in addition to the security dimension, through the effective action of the Moroccan security services.

The minister also underlined that the Washington meeting is taking place in a “very important” time, against the backdrop of the efforts of the international community to combat terrorism in general and Daech in particular, recalling that Morocco is part of this international effort.

Secretary Tillerson on Wednesday hosted the foreign ministers and senior leaders of the Global Coalition working to defeat ISIS.

It was the first meeting of the full Coalition, now at 68 members, since December 2014.

The ministerial included a detailed discussion of priorities for the Coalition’s multiple lines of effort, including military, foreign terrorist fighters, counterterrorist financing, counter-messaging, and stabilization of liberated areas, to increase the momentum of the campaign. Additionally, Ministers will discuss the ongoing humanitarian crises in Iraq and Syria that are affecting the region.

The Coalition regularly meets at the Small Group level to coordinate and enhance combined efforts to counter ISIS. The last meeting of foreign ministers took place in Washington, D.C. on July 21, 2016, and the last meeting at the political directors level took place in Berlin, Germany on November 17, 2016.
