Cairo - MENA
A woman has been confirmed to have contracted the H5N1 virus or bird flu in Minya, Upper Egypt, the Health Ministry announced.
The new case brings the total number of positive H5N1 patients nationwide to 24 in 2014 (8 completely healed, 6 under treatment and 10 fatalities).
The Health Ministry urged citizens dealing with live poultry to rush as soon as possible to hospital if they started to show any influenza symptoms.
Admitting the anti-viral Tamiflu medication within 24 hours from contracting the symptoms highly increases healing rates, it said.
It also called on citizens to adopt precautionary measures when handling live poultry, such as covering the mouth, washing hands with soap and stop taking children to fowl-raising places.
