In compliance with the directives of HM the King and under the auspices of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Royal Charity Organisation (RCO) signed the administrative arrangements agreement with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) pertaining to multilateral Anti-Ebola Fund and the Kingdom of Bahrain's contribution into the fund.
The Kingdom was represented in signing the agreement by the RCO's Secretary-General Dr. Mustafa Al Sayed and the UNDP was represented by the UN/UNDP's RR/RC Peter Grohmann on behalf of the UN/UNDP's Executive Coordinator for the Global Environment, Yannick Glemarec.
On this occasion, the RCO's secretary-general Dr. Mustafa Al Sayed submitted utmost gratitude and appreciation to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for His Majesty's constant support of humanitarian work and assistance to the needy and contribution to the international anti-Ebola efforts, lauding the generous support from the Government of HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa the Prime Minister, HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme and First Deputy Prime Minister and praising the efforts of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa the RCO-s board of trustee's president in implementing the directives of His Majesty the King.
Dr. Al Sayed said this agreement was signed as part of the Kingdom's contribution to the multilateral Anti-Ebola Fund, including the Kingdom of Bahrain's $1,000,000 donation presented by the Royal Charity Organisation.
The United Nations is represented in this agreement by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) which manages the Anti-Ebola Fund according to the directives of the United Nations' Secretary-General regarding Ebola. The Kingdom's contribution will be merged into the other international contributions.
Dr. Al Sayed praised the huge efforts and effective contributions of the UNDP and its great role in anti-Ebola efforts, stressing the importance of international initiatives provided by international organisations. He expressed the Kingdom's pride in cooperating with the United Nations programmes and various representational offices, especially that have made Bahrain their headquarters, praising the great humanitarian aspects of this programme which Bahrain puts amongst its top priorities.
Grohmann commended the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, praising the Kingdom of Bahrain's constant keenness on supporting collective work and also praising the efforts of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad in running charity and humanitarian work of the Royal Charity Organisation, citing the Kingdom's efforts in supporting international initiatives and programmes. The Kingdom of Bahrain is the first Gulf country which contributed in the anti-Ebola efforts with the United Nations in order to follow up international efforts in fighting the disease. Dr. Mustafa added that this agreement will provide the RCO in its capacity as representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain with periodic reports on the progress of anti-Ebola efforts and expending the donations as per applicable UN regulations and control mechanisms.
The UNDP's Representative said that the multilateral Anti-Ebola Fund created by the United Nations aims to ensure the combined contributions of the UN-member countries, regional and international legislative bodies, governmental and non-governmental organisations, companies and individuals.
