Dubai Otology Conference

The third edition of Dubai Otology Neurotology and Skull Base Surgery Conference & Exhibition concluded today at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Academic Medical Center in Dubai Healthcare City. The event witnessed the participation of over 50 key opinion-leaders coming from all over the world to share their knowledge and expertise in this specialized field.

The evolution of the Otology, Neurotology and Skull Base Surgery industry and practice gives rise to the need for an event to discuss these developments. Dubai Otology provides the ideal platform to update otology stakeholders on the new trends and latest technologies that can enhance the early hearing loss detection and intervention.

On the sidelines of the conference and the exhibition, the scientific committee announced the dates of the Post Conference Hands-On Cadaveric Workshops that will run from October 24 until October 27 at the Sharjah Surgical Institute in Sharjah University. The workshops will be on Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, Anterior Skull Base Surgery, and Temporal Bone Dissection. These hands-on cadaveric post-conference workshop will be conducted by the organizers in cooperation with the UAE Ministry of Health and with the support of Sharjah Surgical Institute in Sharjah University.

Dr. Ahmed Alamadi, Consultant Otologist & Neurotologist and Medical Director at Al Baraha Hospital, and the Dubai Otology Conference Chairman, said: "There have been advances in every field of otology especially with new implantable devices, balloon dilatation devices and new surgical techniques and that is why it is of great importance to have such a specialized event that follows these technologies."

Dr. Alamadi urged doctors and surgeons to attend on a regular base such events that include hands on workshops and he said: "These events are especially important for doctors in training where they can learn new surgical procedures without any risk to the patients in very realistic cadaveric workshops. The days of learning by making mistakes while practicing are over. For the senior doctors, of course it's important to keep up-to-date with the latest surgical techniques and technology."

From his side, Dr. Mohammed Al Hammadi, ENT consultant at Al Baraha Hospital, Dubai, said: "Dubai Otology’s 2015 edition witnessed a larger number of exhibiting companies, participants, and speakers. This year, we saw more speakers coming from Canada, Europe and Asia. In addition, the conference topics were quite varied, featuring papers and new studies that covered the important aspects in this field."

About his participation in the conference, Dr. Mohammed commented saying: "My participation this year included giving a workshop about dizziness disease and the best ways for proper diagnosis and better treatment, and a lecture in the main conference about a peculiar disease of the Eustachian tube."

One of the key attractions of the conference this year was the Advance Vestibular Workshop, which witnessed the participation of a huge number of students, doctors, specialists, and surgeons in the field of otology, neurology, and skull base surgery. The hands-on training workshop covered important topics like: Vertigo Management, Video Nystagmography, and Bithermal Calorics. The conference also featured novel researches of ENT Doctors, practitioners, residents and students from different parts of the world through on oral free paper presentation.
