Kuwait - Kuna
A Kuwaiti surgeon specializing in endoscopic surgery of the nose, sinus, and base of the skull, succeeded in restoring the natural movement of the eye in a patient suffering from prominent paralysis of the right eye, headache, and severe pain in the face as well as the head. Consultant for ear, nose, throat surgeries as well as head, neck, and facial surgery in Al-Sabah and Zain Hospital Dr. Humoud Al-Noumas performed the surgery. He told KUNA that an MRI of the patient\'s head showed a mass compressing of the bottom section of the sinus which caused severe swelling on the right side of the brain and veins feeding the eye. Dr. Al-Noumas added that he performed an endoscopic surgical operation and removed the problematic mass. The surgery succeeded and brought back the natural movement of the patient\'s eye as well as eliminated all the pains the patient suffered before surgery, he added. Dr. Al-Noumas explained that this is a rare case of a chronic inflammatory swelling, and the resulting mass presses the nerves and blood vessels connected to the brain and particularly impairs nervous system functions involving the sixth nerve of the eye as well as impairs outward flow of blood from the eye to the brain, which is accompanied by severe pain in the face and the head.
