Tension, fear and anger dominates the life of most Gazans. Some have become accustomed to this situation through the years, while others have found solace by following techniques of a mind and body programme. The programme was created by American psychiatrists visiting Gaza to teach them techniques on how to reduce anger, ease family tensions and give them a sense of control in an environment known for helplessness. According to the Centre of Mind and Body Medicine (CMBM), thousands of Gazans are participating in the programme all over strip. Benefits Men and women of different ages and social levels gather in groups to practice the techniques in relaxing, breathing, cogitation. They also learn about healthy food and herbs. Mohammad Omran, a 17-year-old student practises these techniques with his schoolmates. \"These techniques decrease the stress of the final year (Tawgihi). The best thing I like most is when I close my eyes and start dancing in circles. I feel free from the chains I face every where,\" he said. Dr James Gordon, the founder of the centre, is one of the rare Americans and Jews who have been regularly visiting Gaza strip since 2002 teaching people simple techniques that include yoga, drawing, dancing and writing. He and other psychiatrists have trained around 200 group leaders who are now teaching others.
