Dubai - WAM
A Libyan family comprising eight persons, which found itself stranded and caught up in Yemen's conflict, along with some critically injured Yemenis, arrived in the UAE yesterday at dawn to receive treatment at the hospitals here.
The move comes in line with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and follow up of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
The Libyan family members were received and will be taken care of until they return to Libya. They were received at the airport by the First Secretary at Libyan Embassy, Izzuddin Abdul Mawla, and a number of health officials.
Abdul Mawla thanked the UAE President, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, for their continued support to the people of Libya. He said the Libyan people will never forget this noble humanitarian gesture.
For their part, the Libyan family members expressed their joy, happiness and appreciation for the UAE leadership and people for the care accorded to them.
Meanwhile, the injured Yemenis were transferred to Al Mafraq and Al Ain Hospitals to receive the treatment.
An official source said the arrival of the injured Yemenis to receive treatment at the UAE hospitals comes within the framework of the humanitarian initiative of the UAE President and the fraternal relations between the UAE and Yemeni peoples, adding that the move also comes in the context of the humanitarian efforts perpetuated by the UAE to alleviate the suffering of the people of Yemen and improve their humanitarian conditions in the face of al-Houthi insurgency.
The source explained that other stranded and injured people from Yemen will continue to arrive in the country in response to the humanitarian and relief programmes.
The UAE Humanitarian and Relief Programme provides the necessary needs, including food, medicines and medical supplies, to improve the humanitarian and health conditions of the people of Yemen in coordination and cooperation with regional and international humanitarian organisations.
