Pharrell Williams

The trailer for Open Road's Dope, starring Zoe Kravitz, Shameik Moore and Blake Anderson, was uploaded to YouTube Friday in anticipation of its June 19 release date.
Recording artist Pharrell Williams, who contributed four new tracks to the project, tweeted the trailer's link in the early afternoon, writing, "Can't wait for you to see this film."

The artist wrote the songs for the film's fictitious garage band, Rolling Stone reports.

Although Williams will not grace the big-screen in this film, other rappers like Kylie Jenner's boyfriend, Tyga (De'Andre), and friends of the Odd Future collective, Vince Staples and Casey Veggies will appear.

Director Rick Ramuyiwa (Our Family Wedding) follows the story of Malcom (Shameik Moore), an intelligent, highly achieving black teen living in Inglewood, Calif.

"He isn't a drug dealer or a gang banger," Ramuyiwa tells Entertainment Weekly, "He's into all types of music, and video games and computers. We've seen a lot of films about everything else in these neighborhoods -- the crime, the athletes, the gangs -- but you don't see films about the regular kids who have to survive in these streets."

Dope reveals a new perspective to the previously pigeonholed neighborhood as it portrays Malcom and his friends -- a team of "regular kids" -- navigating high school, college applications, love, and a world they know nothing about.
