Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb

Al Azhar is keen on promoting peace and security all over the world and launching dialogue with all religious institutions, including the Canterbury Cathedral in Britain, the World Council of Churches and the Vatican, Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb said on Tuesday.
Al Azhar is an international scientific institution concerned with spreading the moderate teachings of Islam through its scholars and preachers in Egypt and abroad, Tayyeb said at his meeting with British Ambassador in Cairo Johan Casson.
He lauded scholarships provided by the British Embassy for Al Azhar. They represent a bridge for cooperation and communication between the Western civilization and Al Azhar, he said.
For his part, the British diplomat voiced appreciation for Al Azhar’s role in sponsoring the moderate thoughts and for the grand imam’s efforts to help achieve global peace.
