Cairo - Egypt Today
Egypt welcomed the meeting that was held between head of the Libyan Presidential Council Fayez al Sarraj and commander of the Libyan army Khalifa Haftar in Celle Saint Cloud castle in Paris.
In a statement late on Tuesday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry welcomed the statement that was issued at the end of the meeting that reiterated the importance of reaching a political solution to the Libyan crisis, preserving the integrity of Libyan territories and fighting terrorism.
The meeting is an important step on the road of reaching a comprehensive solution to the crisis in Libya, the statement said.
The statement stressed that Egypt will continue efforts with friendly states to back reaching a political solution to the Libyan crisis based on Al Sukhirat agreement that was signed in December of 2015.
Sarraj-Haftar meeting is the second in three months after they met in Abu Dhabi in May.
Sarraj’s government of National Accord has been struggling to assert its authority since it began work in Tripoli in March 2016. Haftar’s rival administration based in the remote east has refused to recognize it.
