The government is keen on retaking state-owned lands from violators, Prime Minister Sherif Ismail said on Sunday.
The premier made the statements before leaving the headquarters of the General Authority For Investment and Free Zones, where he was briefed on the latest developments of clashes between security men and citizens in Warraq district of Giza.
Of all 1,700, just 1,000 encroachments on state-owned lands in Warraq have been removed, he said.
A citizen was killed and 37 security men, including two major generals, were wounded in clashes between citizens and security forces in Warraq district of Giza governorate, the Interior Ministry said.
Also, 19 rioters were injured in the face-off and 10 others were arrested, the ministry said.
The clashes erupted after security forces started removing infringements and retaking state-owned lands from their illegal residents in the district.
Some people attacked the troops with cartridges and stones in an attempt to discourage them from going on with the demolition operation, the ministry added.
The troops were forced to fire tear gas to disperse the protests, the ministry said.
