A huge fire hit a marketplace in Edfu in northern Aswan early Wednesday, causing heavy damage.
The fire destroyed a number of shops and the facade of a nearby apartment building.
No casualties were reported so far.
Ten fire engines rushed to the scene to put out the fire, Aswan security chief Magdi Moussa said.
Reason behind the fire has not been yet clear.
