The Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) has denied reports circulated on social media pages about demolishing Salamlek Palace in Alexandria to build a hotel instead.

In a fact-finding report released on Wednesday, the IDSC said it has contacted the Antiquities Ministry, which described these reports as groundless.

Also, the Antiquities Ministry asserted the palace will be restored and developed, while preserving its archaeological and historical nature, the report added.

Meanwhile, a committee of the Antiquities Ministry has given its final approval to a project for renovating the palace and its attached buildings.

The 12-month long development works at the palace will begin in early November, the Ministry affirmed.

Salamlek Palace, built in the late 19th century by Khedive Abbas Helmy II, has been listed recently as a historic site by the Antiquities Ministry.
