Sofia - Arab Today
The attempts to illegally enter the state border of Bulgaria have decreased by nearly 60 percent compared to 2015, an official said Friday.
"This is a fact, and formally speaking migratory pressure compared to last year is very favorable," Georgi Kostov, Secretary General of the Interior Ministry, said at a meeting with local government representatives near the border with Turkey.
However, recently there have been signs of change in the profile of migrants who entered illegally into the country, said Kostov as quoted by the press office of his ministry.
The authorities have observed markedly more aggressive behavior or acts of aggression, Kostov clarified.
Meanwhile, most of the illegal migrants were not from areas of potential armed conflict, he added.
Bulgaria is located on the most direct route to refugee flows from Turkey to Central Europe. According to its last annual report, in 2015 the Bulgarian Ministry of Interior has registered a total of 95,641 attempts for illegal entry into the country, which was 2.3 times more than in 2014.
